Welcome to my vegan page, launched 9/9/2020!
I plan on adding resources, recipes, etc.
For now, I'm kicking off the page with a new event:

for health, for earth, for the animals

Have you considered transitioning to a plant-based diet for health, environmental, or ethical reasons? Are you curious about what eating more plants and less meat/dairy would look like for you and your family? Do you have questions about how and why you might make these changes? Are you inspired, or resistant, or somewhere in the middle?
Then this loving, fun and yummy no-judgement 15-day exploration in community is for you!
This experience is meant to be an inspiration to incorporate MORE plants and LESS meat/dairy for 15-days (rather than an all or nothing thing, although you could treat it that way if that’s what’s calling you), and an opportunity to LOOK DEEPLY and BEAR WITNESS in a loving container.
This will be a SAFE and NO-JUDGEMENT space, and there will be opportunities to explore, using various mindfulness-based practices, our internal and societal beliefs/biases/habits/conditioning at the root of our food choices, and what it might look like to shift them.
During our three classes, I’ll weave in ethical teachings on interbeing and non-harming, plus various relevant mindfulness, compassion and inquiry practices to hold us as we explore. And I'll provide practical knowledge like nutrition facts and my favorite recipes and techniques to strengthen your foundation for the journey.
This is also meant to be a celebration of every additional act of kindness we together as a group put into the world through our food choices over these 15 days. We live in a world where it's not always clear how to reduce the immense suffering that exists, yet our food choices have the potential to play a concrete and immediate role in alleviating some of that suffering. Now that’s good news!
To further support you on your journey, I’ll send out daily emails and journal prompts, and share my favorite (easy and cheap!) recipes, tips and tricks, and hopefully even some cooking videos (this will be hilarious, I’m sure, as I’m a bit of a messy and wild cook!) I’m also hoping to incorporate a live co-cooking session on Zoom, too, where we all cook a meal together!
Our Vegan Journey will consist of:
1. THREE ZOOM CLASSES led by Charity Kahn:
Monday, Oct 5, 7:30-8:45PM (Kick-off)
Monday, Oct 12, 7:30-8:45PM (Mid-journey check-in)
Monday, Oct 19, 7:30-8:45PM (Celebration!)
(I'll will remain on Zoom for 15 minutes after each class for additional Q&A)
(These classes WILL be recorded and made available in case you miss one, but we encourage participation so we can all support each other, all the time!)
2. DAILY SUPPORT:
I will send out daily support emails, including tips, suggested journal prompts, inspirations, and RECIPES, and be available to respond to your questions.
3. MID-JOURNEY SUPPORT:
I'll share a few cooking videos, and (fingers crossed) we'll figure out how to co-cook something on Zoom! We'll also have a buddy system so you have someone to check in and share with between our gatherings. Additionally, I'll suggest documentaries and articles for you to engage with if you want to go deeper.
4. ONE-ON-ONE SUPPORT SESSION:
Participation in the course includes one 40-minute private session with me where you can ask all your questions, and/or get mindfulness-based support for your journey. After registering, you’ll receive the link to schedule your one-on-one.

The classes will take place via Zoom, the daily support via email. You'll receive the Zoom link upon registration.
*I am offering this class in partnership with Recess Collective, an inclusive community centered space committed to supporting families from the time of pregnancy through the first four years by providing opportunities for perinatal education, play, creativity, support & connection.
Charity Kahn is a musician, teaching artist and mindfulness instructor based in San Francisco, CA. She has released seven albums of award-winning music for families with her band “Charity and the JAMband”, and a collection of guided meditations for kids and their grown-ups. She is the founder of The JAM Experience, sharing music, movement and mindfulness with families around the Bay Area and beyond through her beloved classes, camps and concerts. Charity also combines mindfulness and a passion for social and climate justice in recordings and meditation concerts for grown-ups with her band, "The Invisible Bee”.
Charity has been practicing Insight Meditation for fourteen years, and teaching meditation and mindfulness for the last seven. She’s currently studying with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield via SoundsTrue's Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, and has received training and inspiration from Mindful Schools, Gil Fronsdal, Kaira Jewel Lingo, Thich Nhat Hanh, Thanissara, Susie Harrington, Vinny Ferraro, Matthew Brennsilver, Erin Selover and others.
Charity has been vegetarian since Mother's Day, 2011, and vegan since Mother's Day, 2012. She is committed to sharing inspiration and support for the practice of eating with kindness and compassion, and helping people transition, internally and externally, toward a plant-based diet. For the animals, for earth, for health, for kindness!
Like so many artists and teachers, my ability to work has shifted dramatically due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I've moved my JAM and meditation programs online in an effort to provide continuity of programming, and I'm offering all these programs on a donation basis so the barrier to entry is less, as I know many are in difficult financial position these days.
I will need financial support in order to be able to continue offering programs. If you have the means, any donation you can offer helps immensely.
