Our song, Loving Kindness, is rooted in a Buddhist meditation practice (also called Metta) whereby you simply send wishes for happiness, health, safety and peacefulness to yourself and others. I have found this practice to be a powerful way of remaining centered and positive amidst the chaos of life, and wanted to translate this sentiment into a song that was easy for children (and us grown-ups!) to sing and remember, so here you go. I've been singing it with my JAMcampers for the past year, and finally got around to recording it. What was first a little ditty grew into something deeper and richer. I believe the song asked for that! Thank you to all the children who have sung this song with me and helped give it life!!!

Loving Kindness
May I be happy, may I be well
May I be safe and sound
May I be peaceful, may I be at ease
With love in my heart and all around

May you be happy, may you be well
May you be safe and sound
May you be peaceful, may you be at ease
With love in your heart and all around

You can sing your love
You can dance your love
You can play your love
Today, my love
You can laugh your love
You can cry your love
You can walk your love
And you can fly your love
All around

May I be happy, may I be well
May I be safe and sound
May I be peaceful, may I be at ease
With love in my heart and all around

May you be happy, may you be well
May you be safe and sound
May you be peaceful, may you be at ease
With love in your heart and all around

You can sit with your love
You can breathe with your love
You can listen to your love
It's in your heart, my love
You can share your love
You can shine your love
You can be your love
And you can spread your love
All around

May we be happy, may we be well
May we be safe and sound
May we be peaceful, may we be at ease
With love in our hearts and all around

May we be happy, may we be well
May we be safe and sound
May we be peaceful, may we be at ease
With love in our hearts and all around

THANK YOU! I've been singing the verses of Loving Kindness with my JAMcampers for the past year, and finally made time to record it. What began as a little ditty grew into something deeper and richer, as we added guitars and mandolin and recorder and bass and new lyrics. I believe the song asked for that. Thank you to Daryn and Paul for your wonderful musical contributions. Thank you to all the children who have sung this song with me and helped give it life and a purpose. Thank you to Gil Fronsdal from the Insight Meditation Center in Redwood City from whose podcast I first learned about the practice of Loving Kindness. And thanks to all of you for listening and singing along!
