Jamboodas Music & Movement (ages 0-5)

***Jamboodas Classic (ages 0-4, parent/child)
What is it? JAMband songs and dances, creative movement, dramatic play, percussion jams, scarf dancing, yoga, lots of love! Why do it? These kids are really on the move, and need to jump, shake, shimmy, twirl, sway, rock, stomp, bang on things, laugh, and hug and be hugged in order for their brains and hearts to grow strong and wise. And everybody benefits when the grown-ups join in on the fun!
Who leads it? Lead by Charity Kahn, songwriter, performer, musician, mother, and the creator of Jamboodas, JAMspace and the JAMband.
When is it? Wed 10:15am & 11:15am, Thurs 10:15am & 11:15am, Fri 10:15am & 11:15am. (Eleven weeks: Sept 15 - Dec 3, no class Nov 24-26). Check schedule for availability.

ATTENTION PLAYGROUPS! Gather a group of six or more families and reserve one of the 11:15 time slots -- or request a specific class time that works best for your group -- for a private Jamboodas class and receive 10% off tuition! Contact Charity directly to reserve your spot and register.

***Extreme Jamboodas (ages 3.5-5, drop-off)  NEW!!!
What is it? Take it to the next level! Join Charity for a music-dance-drama experience that builds on the ideas, concepts and songs from our regular Jamboodas classes, but with an added emphasis on dramatic play, storytelling, song creation and improvisation. This class is for those kids who have been through an early childhood music and movement program and are ready for the next creative challenge.
Who leads it? Lead by Charity Kahn, songwriter, performer, musician, mother, and the creator of Jamboodas, JAMspace and the JAMband.
When is it? Gather a group of 5 kids minimum and contact Charity to schedule. Check schedule for availability.
NOTE: Since this is a drop-off class, please consider your child's current abilities around things like following directions and being respectful of other children's space when making your choice. Feel free to contact Charity if you have questions.

ArtJAM (ages 1 - 3.9, parent/child)
What is it? Magical art exploration and experimentation. Come play and discover with a variety of materials, including playdough, paint, and 3-D collage. Enjoy the process and watch your sprouting artist's natural creativity unfold. (Stay tuned for a summer class series, and also classes for older kids!)
Why do it? Children NEED to touch things and get messy and make things with their hands and hearts. In fact, they need this in order for their brains to grow. Making art is a natural part of the magic of any child's day. Let us worry about the mess and come play! P.S. Art develops fine motor skills, provides a pre-speech emotional outlet, and ultimately promotes building creative independent individuals. Cool!
Who leads it? Lead by Brenda Miller, a muralist and teaching artist with Precita Eyes Muralists who has worked with people of all ages and is mom to two young boys.
When is it? Sat 10am June 19-July 24 (6 weeks).

Hip Kids Chorus (ages 8-12, drop-off)
What is it? Get the kids singing! In harmony! The awesome Victor Cervantes from Inspire Music up the street (our favorite place for voice, piano, you-name-it music lessons) leads this fabulous creative outlet.
Why do it? Because it's fun, it feels good, it's healing, it's joyful, and "you can tell the health of the village by the singing of its children"! (African proverb)
When is it? Tuesday afternoons, 5:15-6:30pm, June 8-July 27 (8 weeks). Check schedule for availability.

Imagine It! (ages 3.5-5, drop-off)
What is it? Designed for our youngest actor enthusiasts, this class is an introduction to dramatic play. Through games designed to encourage imagination and creativity and with active storytelling, the class will dramatize stories in a welcoming and nurturing environment. We'll explore basic acting fundamentals and techniques, work together as a team, and build a strong base of theatrical knowledge and imaginative abilities.
Why do it? If play is the work of childhood, then your kids will thoroughly enjoy the job of coming to this class! We provide the environment and the conditions for their innate brilliance and creativity to thrive, shine and be mirrored. With a little direction, kids learn to combine and communicate their ideas, and collaborate on in-the-moment pretend-play of their own creation. Wouldn't YOU like to take this class if you could?
Who leads it? Lead by Ashley Cowan, an expert in children's theater. The kids LOVE her, and she's a master at enabling kids' voices and muses to speak!
When is it? Thursday afternoons, 3-4:00pm. ON BREAK FOR SUMMER! WILL RESUME IN SEPT.

Presenting a Play (ages 5-8, drop-off)
What is it? This class is for young children who are learning to love the magic of drama. Students act out classic and contemporary stories, as well as creating their own unique adventures. Major emphasis will be placed on pantomime, improvisation, character development, and the fundamentals of story structure. Using fun improvisational techniques, students will create their own play to perform at the end of class.
Why do it? Lead by an expert in children's theater, this class is not to be missed. Kids at this age still need a serious amount of play in their day in order to develop their brains and hearts. They are bursting with creative ideas, and finally have the bodies and intelligence to communicate, act on and organize them in ways they couldn't when they were littler. And they're ready to collaborate in a group setting to make something bigger than themselves. Hence, this class!
Who leads it? Lead by Ashley Cowan, an expert in children's theater. The kids LOVE her, and she's a master at enabling kids' voices and muses to speak!
When is it? Thursday afternoons, 4-5:30pm. ON BREAK FOR SUMMER! WILL RESUME IN SEPT.

Making a Musical (ages 8-12, drop-off)
What is it? Focusing on basic singing techniques, breath and voice control, and staged movement, the class will work together to create a unique one-of-a-kind musical! Along with working to master the music we will also focus on character and story development with our piece in a nurturing creative environment. We will combine classic Musical Theatre songs with characters we create to make a production that will be sure to capture the spirit of Broadway.
Why do it? Lead by an expert in children's theater, this class is not to be missed. Ashley Cowan is originally from Avon, CT and is a graduate of Roger Williams University, located in Bristol, RI, where she double majored in Communications and Theatre. While attending school she ran an after school drama program for a local elementary school and after graduating she moved to New York City where she continued to teach and act. Ashley moved to San Francisco two years ago when she was offered a role in "Tony N Tina's Wedding" and found a teaching position with Young Performers Theater; she has been living, teaching, and acting in the Bay Area ever since and is thrilled to have the opportunity to teach Musical Theater with a new group!
When is it? Tuesday afternoons, 3-4:30pm. ON BREAK FOR SUMMER! WILL RESUME IN SEPT.
